Last week, my husband, Andy, came back in the house from taking Shane out for his morning bathroom break with a “You won’t believe this!” look on his face.
Andy filled me in on all the details of how, at the very moment Shane got into position to do his serious business, Andy’s eyes were drawn to movement in the grass just below Shane’s rear-end which was in full operational mode (I’m trying to be delicate here!). The source of the movement was a snake which had risen its head above the grass to investigate what was going on right in front of it.
Andy couldn’t believe it. The snake was literally inches from Shane’s rear-end!
Andy’s mind raced with options—1) stay calm and allow Shane to finish as quickly as possible, then get him out of harm’s way (yes), 2) yank Shane away from the snake immediately and interrupt his morning moment (no), 3) grab the snake and hurl it far away from Shane (just kidding).
Shane, of course, was completely unaware of the potential danger that was lurking just below him. His “Daddy” had stayed calm and in control, had monitored every second of the situation, and had protected Shane from harm.
As I have continued to think about this incident, I see how it applies to each and every one of us in our walk with God. The enemy (the serpent) hovers near us, and the danger is real. He is poised to strike at any moment, and we don’t always see him. But our Father sees him always; He is in complete control. God monitors every second of every situation and protects us continually from harm.
God does His part faithfully every day. It is important that we do our part. We need to keep our eyes out for the snake in the grass.
Peace to you!
