I have to share the story behind this picture of Shane, our dog.
If you have read Perfect Pace, you know that God is teaching me profound truths about obedience and surrender to His will by illustrating them through my relationship with our dog, Shane. Well, God isn’t done with His illustrations yet, thankfully.
Each morning when Shane and I come in from his morning potty break, I give him a special treat in the kitchen. I have trained him to eat this treat in the same spot each morning – on the floor right next to the kitchen slider. Each morning when Shane and I come back into the house, he dashes up the stairs excitedly to the kitchen, ready for his morning treat!
On one particular morning recently, I was delayed in getting upstairs by something I needed to take care of in the garage, so I called up to Shane and let him know that he needed to wait. When I finally came up to the kitchen, Shane was patiently waiting in his usual spot (see photo). He was expectant, hopeful, and obedient. There was no whining, no barking, and no running downstairs to see why I hadn’t given him his treat yet. Shane had been told that the treat was coming and to wait for it. He listened well, and I was pleased.
It made me think about the promises God has given us in His Word. God has told us that blessings (treats) are coming to us. Some days we see those blessings right away. On other days, God asks us to wait a little longer for the blessings or for the answers to our prayers. I want to model Shane in my reaction to being asked to wait just a little longer. I want to remain in the spot that God has guided me to be in, and I want to wait patiently on His timing while He takes care of things that I have no way of understanding or comprehending. If God asks me to wait, I am to wait.
Shane just showed me how to do it.
Peace to you!
